Our class has moved on to technical drawing in P.A.A. after completing our hydraulic bridge building section. Building the bridges was a fun experience and also allowed the class to meet the following science and math outcomes:
Grade 8 Science - Physical Science: Forces, Fluids, and Density (FD) Investigate and represent the density of solids, liquids, and gases based on the particle theory of matter. Investigate and describe physical properties of fluids (liquids and gases), including viscosity and compressibility. Identify and interpret the scientific principles underlying the functioning of natural and constructed fluid systems. Grade 8 Math Expand and demonstrate understanding of percents greater than or equal to 0% (including fractional and decimal percents) concretely, pictorially, and symbolically. Demonstrate understanding of rates, ratios, and proportional reasoning concretely, pictorially, and symbolically. The technical drawing class will also allow the class to satisfy some of the outcomes in Grade 8 Math for geometry.

Students constructed Theodorus Wheels using their knowledge of squared numbers, square roots and the Pythagorean Theorem. It was a fun, creative math project and I was very impressed by the students' outputs.
There will be a letter coming home with youngest and only students today regarding three-way conferences on November 17th. The school is piloting a new web-based scheduling application known as "Conference Manager". The Online Conference Manager will be open to our families starting on Saturday, November 4th, 2017 beginning at 8:00 AM and will remain open until Thursday, November 9th, 2017 at 6:00 PM. The process is first come, first served. If there are any problems, the school asks that you contact Ms. Shawna Stangel (our V.P.) directly.
